The newest addition to hospitality specialist The Kove Collection’s growing portfolio, Surfshack Diner on the Camps Bay beachfront is a refreshing new face on the restaurant scene.
With venues such as Chinchilla, The Bungalow and Lily’s in its family of lifestyle destinations, The Kove Collection has become known for its Midas touch when it comes to launching spaces with equal emphasis on atmosphere, excellent food and superb locations.
Surfshack ticks all of those boxes. A cool laidback space (above Camps Bay institute Paranga) with plentiful indoor tables as well as a spacious terrace area, the restaurant is done in rustic natural materials, with beach scenes on the walls and fringed parasols shading the tables outside, and has a perfect view onto the strip and beach beyond.
The menu offers flavour-packed ‘shareables’ to start (the seared ahi tuna and corn with aioli and Parmesan are especially worth ordering) followed by a balanced menu divided into seafood, grills, buns, salads and pizza. You’ll find everything from a ‘poor man’s lobster roll’ and salt and pepper squid to steak and seafood platters.
Globally inspired, and entirely unpretentious, the focus on flavour is matched by simple but appealing plating and friendly but super efficient service.
Open since early October, Surfshack is proving to be a hit with a variety of diners – from local families out for lunch to international holidaymakers post hike on the mountain. It’s an ideal spot for sundowners after the beach too.
Surfshack is located at 201 The Promenade on Victoria Road and is open for lunch and dinner Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 11pm.
