Spring in their step

Ted Baker’s new S/S 2019 men’s and women’s collections have an adventurous spin

Inspired by a global and pioneering spirit, the men’s collection for spring/summer 2019 from Ted Baker combines influences from far-flung places to create a collection that sets the tone for the future direction of menswear.

For this collection the brand has employed Nordic-inspired neutrals to start the season (grounded by the ‘new neutral’, khaki), before moving into a more colourful phase with saturated tropical brights. Inspired by diverse destinations like the savannahs and jungles of the African continent, to the brand’s hometown of London, the collection speaks to someone with places to go. Versatile pieces like quilted jersey shirts, gilets, and a half-zip jersey polo with double pockets are practical and fun in equal measure, while the trademark florals and modern geometrics have been updated with fresh pops of colour, such as azure blue and deep fuchsia in line with this eclectic spirit. The collection also features some home comforts in the form of soft, striped knitwear and some favourite prints.

For women this season, there is a touch of mystic charm throughout the collection. Florals, frills and floaty fabrics, underpinned by a dreamy palette, give the pieces a romantic quality perfect for the season. These are no shrinking violets however – florals are dramatic, hues are exciting (even when pale) and silhouettes are striking. Vibrant hues of red, orange and turquoise are clashed, while light meets dark elsewhere, or pastels melt together.

Counteracting the frocks are some sportier pieces – jumpsuits, denim and shorts – that transition from casual to cocktail, or day to night effortlessly. All feature Ted Baker’s signature attention to and eye for detail – from individually placed embroideries to pops of bright red trim.
