Bright lights, bigger city
Leading designers lend their talent to Steyn City’s next phase of development
Steyn City in Johannesburg offers world-class facilities and a combination of convenience and luxury. From an equestrian centre and Jack Nicklaus-design championship golf course with award-winning clubhouse, to indoor aquatic centre, kilometres of promenade to run or cycle along, and fishing dams, children’s play nodes and outdoor gym parks, it ticks every box in terms of a holistic way of life.
It’s fitting that an estate that services its community to such a high standard would have design integrity to match. On the precipice of 2020, with a further investment of R5,5 billion into the development, it’s now ready to realise its vision as the ultimate lifestyle destination. This will be made possible with the launch of the City Centre next year, elevating the estate to a new level with an offering of 700 luxury apartments and 11 penthouses. This new development includes rooftop pools, a resort pool, a piazza lined with boutiques and eateries, and a treed central park. Entirely pedestrianised, the City Centre introduces a new level of convenience – complete with its own heliport, and fitted with office suites, washroom, coffee bars and lounges (ideal for those wanting to use it as a business hub).
What really sets this new phase of the development apart however is the participation of some of South Africa’s leading designers. Names such as Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, Stephen Falcke, Donald Nxumalo, Buzwe Mabuza, Yvonne O’Brien, Amanda Elliott, Bilala Mabuza and Ayesha Nobanda are adding their skills to the project to ensure that Steyn City’s City Centre will offer a design standard to match the lifestyle.
Architect, Bryan Charters of SCAD (Steyn City Architecture and Design) says that the designers who have been commissioned to bring the project to life and enhance an island/holiday lifestyle destination represent the cream of South Africa’s creative thinking. “We can’t wait to see how the designers put their stamp on this magnificent development – which will be all the more breathtaking for their input,” says Charters.
