At home with Liezel van der Westhuizen
Liezel van der Westhuizen is a world-class traveller, fitness junkie, and well-known name within the entertainment industry. You’ll find her on Kfm from 05h00 to 06h00 in the morning, but off air she soaks up the sun in her Sea Point home. We caught up with Liezel, and found out more about the home she shares with her fiancé, Mike.
How would you describe your home?
Relaxed, beach side vibes!
Who do you live with and what makes them the best ‘roommates’?
I live with my fiancé Mike and our two rescues dogs named Luke and Leia. The rescues think they own the home, as on most weekends it’s littered with their balls and toys.
Which is your favorite room in your house and why?
I love our bedroom because it’s light and airy with a slight view of the ocean, so I can see if it’s a good day to go stand up paddling.
Who did you entrust to decorate your home?
My sister Monique!
What is the most expensive item you bought for your house?
A beautiful rhino pencil sketch done by Richard Stone, who is a British painter specialising in Royal portraits. In 1973, at the age of 22, he became the youngest commissioned royal portrait painter in almost 200 years.
What makes your neighborhood one that you love?
My neighbourhood is in sync with my active lifestyle. I love that I am able to take a walk or jog along the Sea Point promenade and after only a 5 minute drive, I am able to run through a national park on Table Mountain.
How would you describe the decor style in your home?
Beach chic! I love clean looks, with a touch of colour.
How did you make YOUR house, YOUR home?
My home is filled with personal momentos from all my travels as well as framed photographs of my adventures with Mike and our family. Each of our art pieces tell a story about a part of our relationship and the journey we have gone through together.
