The annual L’Ormarins Queens Plate Festival is a celebration of sport and style
One of Cape Town’s most hotly anticipated social and sporting events, the annual L’Ormarins Queens Plate Racing Festival takes place this weekend, the 10th and 11th January, at the Kenilworth Racecourse.
An event that’s notable not only for its sporting prowess and show of equine excellence, the festival has become a premium lifestyle occasion – with fashion, culinary showmanship and entertainment on tap.
This year marks the 159th running of the Queens Plate, and with that comes an elevated offering that seeks to ensure that all guests get a premium experience.
On day 1 – Friday – LQP will present the exclusive LQP Garden Party, complete with free-flowing bubbly, a harvest-table lunch and live jazz with an eight-strong race-card, featuring the exciting Gr2 Sceptre Stakes and the hospitality option of The Somerset Room (which includes a three-course meal).
Day 2 will see a bigger scope, where guests can enjoy a dynamic 10-strong undercard, which includes the prestigious Gr1 Paddock Stakes and three additional graded races. In addition, varied hospitality options – and an updated layout – will be on offer, which means that everyone gets a front seat to the action. An array of areas allows you to choose whichever suits your tastes best – from the Style Village (which gives you access to the horse racing as well as the after party), to the VIP Stud Club – an exclusive stylishly decorated space of cocktail, lounge and bar areas where guests can mingle, place bets and enjoy complimentary catering including a light lunch and selected Anthonij Rupert wines – to the Paddock Sites (which are limited to 16 people each and include four bottles of Protea wine, 10 Heinekens and a bottle of SKYY Vodka as well as a picnic basket), the Kenilworth Room (tickets come with a three-course meal, air-conditioning and cash bar facilities) and the super premium Peninsula Jazz Room (which includes a three-course meal, full local bar, a gift, live jazz and more). Each venue offers a unique lifestyle experience.
Dress code is strictly blue and white and smart (full guidelines are available on the website, along with parking details and further event information) and tickets are available on Computicket.
